A story of Balari Chaudhary and her family

Balari Chaudhary is a permanent resident of Buka village and she is a widow. She has a son and a daughter in law in her family. She participated in organic farming training program, started organic farming in 18 gattha of land and took a membership of cooperative organization after the project “Model organic farming and biodiversity conservation” funded by UNDP Nepal and implemented by ESDRC Nepal was started in Buka village. Her daughter in law helped her in organic farming and his son had gone to Saudi Arab for employment. After a year of organic farming when she started earning from organic farming she called his son Binod Chaudhary to return back to home and help her in farming. Her son participated in a training programfor making compost manure and organic pesticides. Project supported two greenhouse tunnel and drop irrigation facility to this family. Now, all three members of family work in farm to grow cabbage, tomoto, cauliflower, cucumber, bitter gourd and chilly and earn up to 8 lakhs Nepali rupees in a year.

Balari Chaudhary is very happy with the progress that her family is making these days and says “When my son went to Saudi Arab for employment, I was worried and sleepless, but now I am very happy as my son is working together with us and earning very well”. Her daughter in law Sabita Chaudhary was also not happy with his husband going abroad for employment but now she is happy that her husband is with her and earning good money to look after her family. She says “my husband had to go abroad for employment and we had no idea to make money from farming but the organic farming and biodiversity project taught an idea to earn money from organic family and this project has not only made our family happy but made this entire village happy through this project”.
