A sick Himalayan vulture was found in the Bishnupura Community Forest of Shantinagar Rural Municipality on Monday. A team comprising staffers from the Division Forest Office and officials from the community forest took the ailing vulture to the Wildlife Treatment Centre in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-18.
The vulture has been given medication mixed with meat, similar to how sick humans are treated. Since 2007, the Centre has been treating sick and injured wildlife found in forests. According to the centre’s chairman, Dilli Bahadur Rawat, a total of 365 sick and injured wild animals have been brought to the treatment centre so far. Out of these, 296 were treated and released back into the wild, while 70 did not survive.
The centre also receives injured and sick vultures from neighbouring districts, including Jumla and Banke. Two years ago, 45 vultures were brought for treatment after consuming poisoned carcasses in the Bishnupura Community Forest, Rawat informed.
